mimi duo is releasing their debut album Falling like tears at 3:00pm on March 6th, 2016 at the beautiful Church of the Resurrection (Swanbourne). The concert will feature exquisite original music performed by Duncan Gardiner (guitar) and Setsu Masuda (piano). Jo Darvall’s magical artbook (which served as inspiration for the project) will be on display at the event.

WAAPA's version of this unique celebration will showcase the great composer's lieder sung with guitar accompaniment. "Goes with the Territory" is a collaboration between two artistic researchers at Edith Cowan University. Jonathan Paget is a leading Australian guitarist, and Head of Classical Music at the WA Academy of Performing Arts. Reviews describe his "subtle, intimate artistry," and "brilliant technique." Glen Phillips is an acclaimed Australian poet and author of more than 40 poetry books, renowned for his poignant portrayals of the Western Australian bush. Reviewers say his work is "continually finding imagery for human emotions" and "poetry of love and landscape abound." He is Honorary Professor at the School of Arts and Humanities.

Fantasy and sonata represent two polar opposites of the musical spectrum: 'fantasy' evokes freedom and imagination, and 'sonata' embodies abstraction and sounding structure. Through composers spanning the Renaissance to the present day, this program explores the various ways guitar composers have followed either their heads or their hearts.

From scary Norwegian trolls and mountain kings to epic Arabian sabre fights, from fiery Spanish tangos to lively Scottish jigs, Fiddlesticks take children on an imaginary journey across the world! This trio of guitar, violin and cello will open young minds by weaving exciting stories through the magic of live music performance. The trio will have children up and dancing, sharing imaginary stories about the music and singing, swaying and dreaming along to their music. In the fashionable Georgian age of Jane Austen’s romance novels, square pianos were the mainstay of domestic music-making. The square piano, which features prominently in the Stewart Symonds Collection, was an English invention that allowed compact affordable pianos to fill the drawing rooms of thousands of homes. English music-making of this era includes a surprisingly rich repertoire of songs for piano and guitar.
