Edited highlights of closing comments at the 2016 WA Guitar Ensemble Festival

"Listening to these ensembles has been an absolute privilege so its an honour for us to witness a weekend like this. For us interstate guitarists this is an absolutely enviable thing that you guys have got going on here. I don't see anywhere else in the world where there are so many guitar ensembles and so much amazing teaching happening at schools and privately and at universities.

"Last weekend was the international guitar festival in Adelaide where I've been the musical director for a few years. It's a competition with a large prize and is a very difficult competition to win. There are always 16 semi-finalists and this year there were six from Perth, two from Melbourne, one from Sydney, a few from Brisbane and a few international players. Having six from Perth is a tribute to what's happening here at schools and so I'd like to thank all the teachers for leading this and inspiring everyone. Thank you for supporting the guitar so much."

- Slava Grigoryan, August 2016
